Slow Food - Eat with the Youth Food Movement at 2010 Terra Madre

Twentysomethings born in the Eighties would be forgiven for thinking they got a raw deal when it comes to being part of an influential youth movement. Much too young to be punks, Mods, Pacifists or any of the many active groups of the Fifties to Seventies, it was a bit of a lost generation, I’d say. Rebels without causes.

And now that generation is virtually standing by, clinging to the notion that maybe the history books will have them down as the first internet kids, while watching their younger sisters and brothers, the Obama generation, emerge from schools and colleges with a passion to save the planet.

The good news is that, providing you’re still young in outlook, it’s not too late to join a movement. Given that you’re here on jorgandolif.com, champion of Slow Life and Slow Food, it’s a good bet we’ve found a group to suit you.

The Youth Food Movement is a growing international community of farmers, artisans, cooks, activists and students, who come together to spread the ideals and practices of Slow Food.

The Movement’s momentum is such that this October it will host a dedicated youth area and meeting space at the 2010 Terra Madre world meeting of food communities in Turin this October.

The space aims to communicate the diverse range of ways that young people can become involved with Slow Food, and to draw attention to the issues that are most relevant to the next generation of sustainable food producers.

Hey, if you find yourself inspired you can go along to 2010 Terra Madre. There will be workshops on topics such as “Youth and the Future of Food” and “Living Slow – How to be a Change-maker”, debates on sustainable food production methods, and the first ever Terra Madre Eat-In. Youth delegates will come together around the table to swap Slow Food ideas and eat.

The goal of the Youth Food Movement is “bringing more food that is good, clean and fair to their communities, and to realign local and regional food systems with the principles of social justice and sustainability”. It might not sound quite as much fun as Free Love but I bet you it tastes better.
