Slow Food - Ooooh, Lahloo...

I’m hooked on tea. I’m a Northerner, for goodness’ sake, so of course I’m hooked on the stuff. Given how much I drink, it’s probably high time I switched from an averagely decent fair trade tea (loaded with caffeine before 10am, decaf afer that), and started to invest in a quality variety.

It would make my life richer, and uhm Slower, many times over each day if I simply drank better tea. Thing is, nothing has excited me enough previously. I’ve tried Earl Grey (too perfumey), herbal (not real tea, surely?) and fresh mint (now that was nice, but a bit high maintainance). They’ve all been big brand varieties and beyond them being fair trade, I’ve not paid much attention to their origins, embarrassingly.

Lahloo might be about to change all that. A range of handpicked and custom-blended loose leaf teas in, yes, varieties including Earl Grey and herbals, Lahloo is all of those things too, but if I’m honest, I’m seduced enough by its story and its gorgeous packaging to give it a try.

Lahloo is a tiny artisan tea business taking on the giants. Started by Kate Glover (pictured above), who loathed tea until she tried a Japanese loose leaf green tea, Lahloo works with some of the world’s finest small tea gardens to create an experience of tea that is quite unlike your average cup of Yorkshire. It’s fairly traded, organic and straight from small artisan producers.

I found Lahloo (strapline; “A journey through your senses”) at the fab new online shop Foodado.com. Foodado tracks down the best artisan produce that can be delivered to your door. Each packet of Lahloo comes with a very Slow in spirit message on the front too, something along the lines of stop, take a break, settle down with a good cuppa. Forget Oooo Typhoo, I’ll take a Lahloo.
