Cool cycling - Bring a little bicycle love into your home

I can think of only a couple of reasons not to own a bicycle. One is not needing to, thanks to the bicycle hire schemes popping up in capital cities around the world, and the other is not having the room in cramped urban flats to store one safely. But if, to you, a home without a bike is like a home without a hearth, Russian designer Jane Molinina has a solution.

Jane, founder of wall art store ArtConductor, has designed this beautiful bicycle wall art. The vintage-styled piece is 34″ high by 59″ wide and comes in a variety of colours by request.

It strikes me as a great way to bring your passion for two wheels right into your home. I have friends that hang their actual bikes on the walls, and granted that’s pretty cool too, especially with a great-looking bike, but Jane’s option is less hassle and probably less muddy!

It certainly makes for a cool alternative to floral sprigs (too girly) or comedy Space Invaders (too blokey) that have taken over walls since arty stickers took over from showpiece wallpaper as the decor choice of the moment.

Jane, an industrial designer and engineer, lives and works in Penza, on the south eastern border of Russia. It’s a city that has seen it’s fair share of unrest in the past, but is now known as a centre for education, boasting six universties. Have you bought anything from Penza before? No, me neither.

Away from industrial design, painting and “creating beautiful things” are Jane’s passions. As well as this one off bicycle, Jane has designed a very sweet cycling duo against a countryside backdrop.

Quoting Albert Einstein, “Life,” says Jane, “is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving”. I rather like the fact that this is one bike that stays still long enough to admire it.
