Capes, the super hero’s favourite piece of clothing, are the perfect type of jacket for cycling as they have no restricting sleeves and are brilliant protection in a downpour. Here we have a selection of cool capes which will make cycling so much more enjoyable – and not to mention fashionable.
First up is the the Lumatwill Cape from Dashion Tweeds. It is highly reflective and Teflon treated to allow water to roll off if caught in the rain, which let’s face it, is going to be quite often if you are based in the UK. This beautifully cut cape is available Velorution for £400
TWOnFRO Capes are made from recycled sails and have large inside pockets, reflective zips and openings. They also come with a reflective shock cord attachment to your bike’s bars to keep the cape down in wind. Also available at Velorution for £200.00.
If you are after a classic rain cape then go for this egg-yolk coloured one from Jeantex Munchen. It’s water and windproof with an integrated carry pouch and has a height-adjustable hood with peak and transparent visor and reflective strips. Basic but classic – and not expensive at £30.
Next we have this classic herringbone woolen cape from London Cycle Chic. With its 100% silk hand-illustrated lining, reflective detailing and tailored back panel (all handmade in Hackney London) you know you are buying a fantastic piece of craftsmanship. Price: £230
Finally, if you are after rain protection but find the classic rain cape colours a bit too boring, then you might want to opt for a cute raincape from Bobbin Bicycle – available in yellow, blue or red. It has an integrated hood with clear side panels so you can see sideways when its tipping it down. Also, it folds down into a little pouch, is easy to pop on en-route and can even be flopped over your handlebars to keep knees dry. £29.00
