If you are visiting Berlin on a cycling holiday, you may want to explore the secret harmony of handcrafted furniture, made from “partly recycled” and “partly new” materials that exist within creative serviced apartments which makes for a wonderful fuss-free accommodation solution.
Enter the wonderful, designed world of VitaminBerlin. Embracing the increasingly popular concept of upcycling, where old objects take on a new, contemporary function, be it for chairs, cupboards, beds and “sunshines” (lights), as well as carefully placed illustrations in the form of wall paintings, mosaics and sandblasted graphics that bedeck the apartments’ clean walls and surfaces.
VitaminBerlin is the brainchild of Patrick Kerti, a German furniture designer and visual artist, and Regitze Moller, a Danish architect and illustrator who use the diversity and creativity of the city to take on these ambitious tasks, allowing an altogether unique experience.
Kerti adds, “Amongst the designwork you’ll find a very old chaise lounge (pictured), which we stripped down to the skeleton and reupholstered in bicycle tube. There is a set of wardrobes from the late fifties that have been refurbished and painted by Regitze. It’s got a wonderful abstract architectural graphic that spreads across two wardrobes of the same kind.”
The pair’s quirky nature continues from the company website, (where on the FAQ of the company website you will find the answer to “Why is the sky blue?”) into quality, high designed and equipped apartments, perfect for both a long or short stay.
Conveniently located within the city central districts of Kreuzberg and Mitte but far “removed from the traps of the beaten tourist track”.
If you would like to enjoy one of the furniture pieces at home, then glide over to VitaminBerlin’s shop, where there is opportunity to order custom made pieces – perfect if you have a favourite piece of junk.
