jorg&olif loves its trip back down memory lane. We’ve found a lovely book to do just that with Cycling’s Golden Age: Heroes of the Post-war Era 1946-1967, by cycling historian author Owen Mulholland.
Mulholland, who was notably the first American to follow the Tour de France in the press caravan in 1975, has created a real treasure with a myriad of collectables from the era by the Horton collection, the richest and largest collection of cycling memorabilia.
This perfect bike lover’s coffee-table book is brought to life with over 400 cycling artefacts from twenty years of the sport. With “never-before-published” photographs of cycling heroes such as Fausto Coppi, Hugo Kobet, Charly Gaul and Jacques Anquetil, as well as beautiful vintage posters, trophies and race-worn jerseys, there’s a touch of nostalgia on every page. It recalls the race results in an unique and artistic approach.
Perfect for those who recall the days before plastic bikes, as well as those who would like to have a better understanding of the bicycle’s journey through the ages.
In the meantime, to see these cycle races come to life, jorg&olif found this wonderful video from the 1950s promoting cycling clubs. Enjoy and remember that the “beauty of Britain is yours to see, and every road leads to health and happiness as your wheels whirr merrily along”!
