As spring makes its late appearance, al fresco fun and games are on the agenda once again and Easter is a great time to re-acquaint your family with the great outdoors. Easter egg hunts are a tradition that have captured children’s imagination for generations, and they’ll be thrilled if you provide them with a proper challenge.
A successful Easter egg hunt requires far more planning and imagination than hiding a few Creme Eggs under a shed, so start thinking now about how you can make the occasion a fun and engaging one.
Many children love the chance to play detective with a series of clues, so the best sorts of egg hunts will involve written hints and pointers. You can have a lot of fun making these up: perhaps cut them into the shapes of ducks, eggs and rabbits on brightly-coloured card. If you’re treating the event as a kids’ party, you might want to theme invitations, place setting and decorations along the same lines.
The clues themselves will be entirely shaped by your own living space and imagination, but you could make the experience even more fun by creating a simple code for older children and using it to write some of the clues. For younger ones, you could draw a picture of the place where you’ve hidden the eggs.
As for the eggs themselves, you could either use the natural sort, decorated with colourful paint or wrapping, or opt for the chocolate variety (more popular with children!). A few of our favourites are Lick the Spoon’s marbled mini eggs, Green & Black’s butterscotch mini eggs and Betty’s glorious handmade milk chocolate duck eggs. Just make sure you’ve got a generous stash hidden away for the adults to enjoy!
